PERFECT SPECIMEN: William DeVaughn

Tall, dark and handsome.

William was born William DeVaughn Stumpf on 27 February 1983 in Budingen, Germany. His father is Filipino-African American and his mother is German.

He came to the Philippines for a short holiday when he tried modeling for telly ads including McDonald’s. He is now one of the country’s most familiar faces and top male models. William recently came 3rd place in the reality TV Big Brother Philippine Edition.

PERFECT SPECIMEN: Mutya Buena

BISEAN’S Ode to one of the best recording artists

that ever came out of Southeast Asia.

Mutya was born Rosa Isabel Mutya Buena in London, England on 21 May 1985. Her father is a Filipino (Bicolano) and her mother is Irish-Chinese-Spanish. She quickly rose to fame as a member of the British award-winning, world music phenomenon – Sugababes.

Mutya is a songwriter too. After leaving Sugababes in December 2005, she launched a solo career. She also set up a MySpace profile to kick start it and she used to chat and corresponds with her MySpace friends. *including me!* I used to send her digital postcards that say: “Thailand loves Mutya” and I didn’t stop until she noticed it. LOL. I was very upset when my favorite song “Addiction” didn’t make it to her first solo album last June. *sigh*

Mutya’s latest works are collaborations with MC Viper, the diva George Michael *pun intended*, Amy Winehouse, the legendary Groove Armada and some other cool artists. “Real Girl” is the title of her first solo album and reached The UK Album Chart at No.10 and remained in the Top 40 for 3 weeks. Her new single "Just a Little Bit" was released 3 days ago!

This gorgeous, talented lady came from our region. She has penetrated the tough world of Western recording through her own talents.

PERFECT SPECIMEN: Willy McIntosh

Who says one should take off his shirt to be sexy?

Willy is a very well known Thai actor. He was born Reungrit McIntosh on 4 April 1970 to a Thai mother (Yupaporn) and a Scotsman father (William). He is the older brother (and the only sibling) of Kathaleeya, another Thai superstar previously featured on BISEAN’s Perfect Specimen series.

Willy went to the University of Michigan and graduated in 1993 as an Aerospace Engineer. Why he never became a pilot is a story nobody knows. Today, Willy is one of Thailand’s most recognizable faces – the man with the perfect complexion.

As he is one of Thailand's pioneer Eurasian superstars, he was featured on Time Magazine's The Great Eurasian Invasion article.

PERFECT SPECIMEN: Devon Aoki

A beauty bridging cultural divides.

Devon is one of the supermodels that emerged in the turn of the new millennium. She was born Devon Edwenna Aoki on 10 August 1982. Her father, Rocky Aoki, is a Japanese-American and owner of the Benihana Restaurant chain. Her mother, Pamela Hilburger is of English and German descent.

Devon started modeling when she was 14. Being discovered in a rock concert in New York, she was introduced to Kate Moss and later replaced Naomi Campbell as the face of Versace. Aside from numerous music videos and 9 movies so far, Devon has graced the cover of all the major fashion magazines in the world as she catwalked for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. She is currently the face of giant fashion house Lancome.

Devon’s unconventional look triggered debates of what beauty is all about. But one thing is for sure -- Her exotic image bridges cultural divides.
